While you may think the 2016 Toyota Tacoma looks much the same, it has changed a lot. There's a new engine choice and many other refinements that make the Tacoma even tougher. They increased both high-strength and ultra-high strength steel content. This improved the roof, frame, and sides, making them stronger than ever. With no net weight gain, the changes improved safety and handling while also preserving fuel economy. The four-wheel drive editions also gained a stronger transfer case. It has quicker reflexes which allow for faster engagement. The chunkier rear axle housing adds to the 4x4's tough build. A stouter ring gear was also added to further strengthen the package. Toyota achieved this improvement through engineering techniques. This allows the engine to offer a combination of port injection and direct injection. The truck can switch between Atkinson and Otto cycles to optimize performance or fuel, depending on real-time factors. The automatic transmissions have been revised with new axle ratios.
