While you may think the 2016 Toyota Tacoma looks much the same, it has changed a lot. There’s a new engine choice and many other refinements that make the Tacoma even tougher. You’ll find the Tacoma at McKinnon Toyota dealer serving Montgomery AL.
Body Refinements
To refine the truck’s capability, the Tacoma engineers started by reinforcing the truck’s body. They increased both high-strength and ultra-high strength steel content. This improved the roof, frame, and sides, making them stronger than ever. With no net weight gain, the changes improved safety and handling while also preserving fuel economy. The four-wheel drive editions also gained a stronger transfer case. It has quicker reflexes which allow for faster engagement. The chunkier rear axle housing adds to the 4×4’s tough build. A stouter ring gear was also added to further strengthen the package.

New Engine
The 3.5-liter engine replaces a 4-liter unit, but it actually generates more horsepower. It adds 42 horses, bringing the count to 278. Toyota achieved this improvement through engineering techniques. This allows the engine to offer a combination of port injection and direct injection. The truck can switch between Atkinson and Otto cycles to optimize performance or fuel, depending on real-time factors. The automatic transmissions have been revised with new axle ratios. Through performance optimization, the truck offers a better low-gear crawl ratio. It also achieves a lower high-speed cruising rpm. Learn about pricing.
