New Engine
The 3.5-liter engine replaces a 4-liter unit, but it actually generates more horsepower. It adds 42 horses, bringing the count to 278. Toyota achieved this improvement through engineering techniques. This allows the engine to offer a combination of port injection and direct injection. The truck can switch between Atkinson and Otto cycles to optimize performance or fuel, depending on real-time factors. The automatic transmissions have been revised with new axle ratios.
