In March 2013, the third generation of the Highlander was unveiled by Toyota. The current Highlander is a member of the third generation of this mid-size crossover SUV. The Highlander has been upgraded and has received facelifts, but it still maintains the safety and performance that Toyotas are known to possess.
2019 Toyota Highlander Performance
The Highlander offers an available 3.5 liter V6 Double Overhead Cam 24-valve direct-injection engine that is paired with an available direct-shift-8AT eight speed Electronically Controlled Automatic transmission with intelligence and sequential shift mode. This combination efficiently blends control with power. Quick acceleration and improved fuel efficiency are also benefits of this combination of engine and transmission. The 2019 Highlander has earned an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle II (ULEVII) fuel efficiency rating. Available on V6 gas-powered Highlanders is a Stop and Start Engine System. Stop and Start technology shuts off the engine of the Highlander when it senses that the vehicle is stopped at a stoplight. When the driver releases the brake, the engine automatically restarts. A Dynamic Torque-Control All-Wheel Drive system distributes engine power from front to back while managing the braking system from side to side to help maintain control of the Highlander.
2019 Toyota Highlander Safety
The 2019 Toyota Highlander has been awarded the NHTSA 5-Star Overall Safety Rating and has been named an IIHS Top Safety Pick. A group of safety features known as the Star Safety System is standard on the Highlander. Features of the Star Safety System include Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Anti-Lock Braking System, Electronic Brake-Force Distribution, Brake Assist and Smart Stop Technology. A standard Advanced Airbag System includes Roll-Sensing Side Curtain Airbags for all seating rows. Additionally, the Highlander is equipped with the Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system to help protect the youngest passengers. To help drivers avoid vehicles that are hidden in blind spots the Highlander offers available Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert Systems. The 2019 Highlander is equipped with the suite of features known as Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P). This suite of features includes Lane Departure Alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Automatic High Beams and a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection. The purpose of Toyota Safety Sense P is to help drivers avoid possible accidents when driving.
2019 Toyota Highlander Technology
Drivers can more easily communicate with passengers in the back seats of the Highlander using the available Driver Easy Speak feature. A built-in microphone lets drivers be heard through the back speakers of the car. An available Bird’s Eye View camera uses an included Perimeter Scan feature to give a 360 degree view of the area around the car. Comfort features include a three-zone climate control feature that offers temperature controls for the driver, front passenger and rear passengers. An available Entune Multimedia Bundle with an available eight inch touchscreen provides access to navigation, popular apps and SiriusXM Satellite radio.
