When you’re looking for an SUV, but you still want the maneuverability of a sedan, a compact SUV might be the right choice for you. If you want Toyota dependability and safety in the form of a compact SUV, look no further than the 2019 Rav4. The Rav4, introduced to US markets in 1996, is now in its fifth generation of production, and has seating for up to five passengers.
Models
There are nine Rav4 models available for 2019. Of those nine, four are hybrids. The base model is the LE, and each trim builds upon the standard features of that model. The Limited and Limited Hybrid are the top tier of the Rav4 model lineup.
Performance
The Rav4 features a Dynamic Force 2.5 liter inline 4-cylinder engine paired with a Direct Shift 8-speed automatic transmission. The transmission is designed to shift through the gears in a smooth and efficient manner while the 203 horsepower engine accelerates efficiently. For more driver control there are three drive modes that can be chosen based upon your driving mood. If you’re looking for maximum fuel efficiency, choose ECO mode. For precise acceleration, there is Sport mode. To combine fuel efficiency with performance, choose Normal mode. The multi-link rear suspension works with the rigid nature of the body to maintain traction and improve control. The Rav4 is built on Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform giving it a stance that is responsive and a core that is strong for smooth handling.
Capability
The Rav4 is designed with appropriate ground clearance to allow you to travel off the beaten path. All Wheel Drive models are equipped with a Multi-Terrain Select feature. There are four modes from which to choose for improved traction on a variety of surfaces. You can choose from mud and sand, rock and dirt, snow or normal modes depending upon the terrain in your area. When you activate it, this system adjusts brakes, engine throttle and drive force distribution to help control the slipping of the wheels and maintain traction.
Safety
Toyota has long been known for enhanced safety features. The 2019 Rav4 comes standard with the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 suite of safety features along with other features that help drivers stay alert to dangers on the road. Included in TSS 2.0 are road sign assist, lane tracing assist, lane departure alert with steering assist and road edge detection, dynamic radar cruise control, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection and automatic high beam headlights. Additional safety features include intelligent clearance sonar with rear cross-traffic braking, a blind spot monitor with rear-cross traffic alert and the star safety system that includes traction control and braking assistant technologies.
