Excitement began building last year as Toyota became the first to put crash avoidance features on some of its base editions. For 2018, nearly every model will have a version of Toyota Safety Sense. Here’s a quick run-down to help you with your car shopping.

Toyota Safety Sense P
This is the most complete suite of Toyota’s crash avoidance features. You get a low-speed and high-speed autobrake with a collision warning and a pedestrian watch. A lane departure alert is matched with a lane assist to help maintain a safe trajectory. Full-Speed Range Dynamic Cruise Control will raise or lower speed to match leader traffic. Automatic high beams will regulate light output, raising or lowering the beam intensity as necessary. If you compare equipped Toyotas with rivals in the same class, you are unlikely to find any vehicle with as many standard safety features.

SUVs
Toyota has added Toyota Safety Sense P to seven of its SUVs. This includes its hybrid models.

C-HR
RAV4
RAV4 Hybrid
Highlander
Highlander Hybrid
Sequoia
Land Cruiser

Sedans and Hybrids
Seven cars have Toyota Safety Sense P. Many hybrid cars are on the list along with best-selling sedans.
Corolla sedan
Camry
Camry Hybrid
Avalon
Avalon Hybrid
Prius
Prius Prime

Minivans
Toyota Safety Sense P is now standard on the 2018 Toyota Sienna, helping it lead the minivan class. By including the Sienna, Toyota has included all regular three-row vehicles in its standard lineup. It’s just another way Toyota puts families first.

Trucks
Both the 2018 Toyota Tacoma and the 2018 Toyota Tundra have Toyota Safety Sense P. This helps them stand taller, outclassing many of their rivals. These two trucks also have eight airbags, two more than average.

Toyota Safety Sense C
Offering slightly less than the P suite, the C package includes a pre-collision autobrake, a lane departure warning, and automatic high beams. The inexpensive Yaris and money-saving Prius C can proudly claim these features. They are offered on the Prius v, which also has Toyota’s exclusive whiplash-lessening seats.

Notable Exceptions
The Yaris iA sedan and Corolla iM hatchback do not have either package, but they do have a low-speed autobrake. This Safety Sense feature can prevent fender benders and collisions. Like most Toyota cars and SUVs, the Yaris iA has earned all five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Top Safety Picks
The following have been chosen by the Insurance Institute for Top Safety Pick or Pick Plus: Corolla, Prius, Prius Prime, Camry, Avalon, RAV4, and Highlander. Most have also earned their five stars from the NHTSA.
